Orthopedics: new frontiers in surgery

New materials, robotic procedures, and digital technologies for increasingly personalized procedures

Orthopedics: new frontiers in surgery
In recent years, orthopedic surgery has undergone a profound evolution thanks to technological innovations such as robotics, new materials, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. These innovations have made surgical procedures safer, more precise, and more personalized. From 2017 to 2023, HCC's collaboration with leading companies such as Stryker and Smith + Nephew and the scientific community, promoting innovative medical technologies through communication activities and major initiatives, has helped to foster the introduction and spread of innovation in the operating room and in the national healthcare system.

Like every branch of surgery, orthopedic surgery has benefited from technological advances, including robotics, new materials, and new procedures. These advances have led to safer, more precise, and less invasive procedures with shorter recovery times for patients. Now, the integration of digital technologies, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, is opening new possibilities for planning, execution, and monitoring and promises increasingly personalized, less invasive procedures.

HCC in orthopedic surgery

From 2017 to 2023, we partnered with Stryker to raise awareness of cutting-edge medical technology for orthopedic surgeries, especially those involving the shoulder, hip, knee, and hand. We presented the Mako surgical robot and partnered with the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT) and its experts to educate institutional decision-makers and payers about the value of this technology. Additionally, we supported Smith + Nephew during significant moments in the company's history, such as the important conference "Healthcare 4.0 and Innovation in Orthopedics: A Sustainability Challenge," which addressed clinical, managerial, and financial challenges to promote the introduction and sustainability of innovation in the operating room. This conference was organized in Rome in collaboration with Value Innovation Access and the British Embassy in 2019. We also supported the inauguration of the new Italian headquarters and the presentation of the renewed corporate identity in 2023, as well as the appointment of a new CEO in 2025.
